Date of Press Release: 5/20/18
Reports from Iran indicate that despite the bloody suppression of the initial demonstration in Kazaerun (located in south-central part of Iran) by the government security forces, the demonstrations in the city have continued for the fourth consecutive day. Reports confirm that at least three protesters have been killed by the security forces opening fire on the demonstrators and score more have been severely injured. Two of the diseased are identified as Ali-Mohammad Azad and Omid Yousefian.
Reports also indicate that a number of government buildings and security forces’ vehicles were set on fire.
Coalition for Democracy and Human Rights in Iran is pleading with the human rights organizations and the United Nations to dispatch observers to Iran and seek the immediate release of those that were arrested in Kazerun demonstration. We are extremely concerned with the plight of these detainees and all the political, religious, ethnic and human right activists that have been detained by the Islamic Republic of Iran. We encourage all international organizations to do their utmost to secure their freedom.
