Truck Drivers Strike in Iran Continues Despite Harsh Crack Down by the Government Security Forces

Reports from Iran indicate that the truck drivers in Iran have continued their strikes and protest for higher wages and better work conditions for the 9th day.  The strike that is having a crippling effect on the Iranian economy has been deemed illegal by the government and a large number of strikers in different cities in Iran have been brutalized and arrested.

The Teamsters organization in the US issued a statement of solidarity with the Iranian truck drivers yesterday.

The coalition for democracy and human rights pleas with all the local and international labor organizations as well as the United Nations to use their good offices to secure the release of the arrested truck drivers and protestors.
